Who We Are and What We Do
The Lakeville Arts Council(LAC), as part of the Massachusetts Cultural Council(MCC), promotes excellence, access, education and diversity in the arts, humanities and interpretive sciences, in order to improve the quality of life for our community and its residents and to contribute to the economic vitality of our town.
A few of the projects funded by the LAC thru the MCC grants include to mention a few: Theatre One Productions, the 2007-present Cultural Presentation Series at the Lakeville Library, Lakeville Senior Center, Soule Homestead Ed Ctr Annual Harvest Festival, Lakeville Garden Club Small 2009 Standard Flower Show, and the Plymouth Philharmonic Orchestra 2006-07 Season.
For more than 30 years, the MCC has invested in the cultural life of Massachusetts. The LAC receives an annual appropriation from the state legislature. It then makes approves grants to nonprofit cultural organizations, schools, communities and individual artists, funding programs that use the arts and the humanities to build strong, diverse, livable communities.
In addition to the distribution of MCC grants, the current Lakeville Arts Council is active in the community; Lakeville Open Studio, annual Lakeville Arts and Music Festival, historic postcards, and annual "Made In Lakeville" Holiday Craft Fair are just a few examples of Council originated ideas.
