Mission Statement

To help educate the Town of Lakeville on clean energy options and measures that can be implemented to reduce energy use, conserve resources and reduce emissions; to assist in the development of cost effective projects on municipal facilities to reduce energy and resource use and develop renewable energy resources; and to promote awareness of new technologies and their potential impact on energy use and resource conservation.

Membership    

The Energy Advisory Committee, to be appointed by the Board of Selectmen, shall be comprised of the following:  the Building Commissioner, Town Administrator, a member from the Board of Selectmen, Planning Board, Zoning Board of Appeals, Park Commission, Board of Health, Conservation Commission, Open Space Committee, Historical Commission, Board Assessors, Lakeville Development Corporation, as well as, several members at-large.

Tasks  

Serve as an information resource for town residents, business owners and municipal employees on the benefits of energy and resource conservation.  Increase constituents' awareness of resource conservation methods, energy efficiency programs, utility rebates and state/federal programs to promote energy efficiency. Utilize web technologies as appropriate.

Review and interpret data files on the energy consumption in town buildings and vehicles to develop baseline energy data, current consumption levels and assist in the projection of energy and resource budgets/demands. Provide advice to the Board of Selectmen on the development of policies and budget items that could contribute to reduced energy and resource use.

Assist in the development of studies that will lead to cost effective reduction in the use of energy and other resources at existing and planned municipal facilities.

Investigate and identify funding sources that may support the implementation of energy efficiency, renewable energy development and reduction of resource utilization projects. Assist in the preparation of grants and proposals leading to the development of such projects. Assist in the development of funded projects to the extent necessary to assure project implementation.

Recommend changes to municipal codes, ordinances and policies as appropriate to reduce energy use, conserve resources and reduce emissions within the Town of Lakeville.

Solicit and analyze suggestions from citizens and other community constituents on energy savings, energy efficiency, renewable energy development and resource utilization. Publicize results on the Town web site.
