Frequently Asked Questions

Snow & Ice

Who should I call if my mailbox is knocked over by snow?  The force of the snow being thrown from the plow can occasionally detach a mailbox from its post.  The Town of Lakeville does not replace mailboxes that are taken down by snow.  The Highway Department recommends checking both your mailbox and post to make sure they are tight and secure prior to any storms.

My street has not been plowed, who do I call?  If it is not an emergency, please be patient. Your street will be plowed as quickly as possible. Available plows must first clear all main roads before they begin the residential streets. If there is a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1.

I have a fire hydrant in front of my house, whose responsibility is it to shovel the snow around it?   Any fire hydrant in front of a dwelling or business is the responsibility of the property owner to keep clear.  The Highway Department does not shovel hydrants out.

Is there sand available to residents for their property?    Yes, a sand/salt mix is usually available in front of the Highway Garage at 6 Montgomery Street.  A shovel is available but we ask that you bring your own bucket.  Please limit to one bucket only.
