A MESSAGE FROM THE TOWN CLERK

Please be advised of the following services that the Town Clerk's office provides, appointments that are required and the closure of the office due to Federal, State and Local Elections.

Burial Permits
Marriage Intentions/Licenses
  • Marriage Intentions will be filed in the Town Clerk's office BY APPOINTMENT.
Business Certificates (DBA's Doing Business As)
  • New/Renewals may be done by mail or BY APPOINTMENT.
Dogs Licenses
  • Dog licenses can be renewed by mail.  If you are licensing a new puppy, please include the rabies expiration date and your vet’s name on the Mail-In Form.
  • If you do not have access to a computer, licenses may be renewed or purchased by submitting an application via US Mail or placed in the Town Clerk's drop box (green drop box) in front of Town Hall at 346 Bedford Street.  Please be aware that your dog has to be current with their rabies vaccination(s). If your dog’s rabies vaccine expired in the last year, please include a copy of your current rabies certificate or the date of rabies expiration and vet’s name.
Vital Record Request (by mail, online or in-person BY APPOINTMENT)
  • Birth, Death and Marriages certified copies.
  • Please contact the Town Clerk at ldrane@lakevillema.org to ensure we have your vital record on file.
  • If picking up in person, please call ahead with appointment.
  • Once this has been determined, you may go online to request and purchase your vital record.
  • You may also do this by mail, sending in your  request  and payment with a self-addressed stamped envelope to: Lakeville Town Clerk, 346 Bedford Street, Lakeville,  MA  02347 or placed in the drop box(silver payment box) in front of Town Hall.
  • The fee for each certified copy is $10 by mail or drop box and $11.50 online
ELECTIONS:
Presidential Primary Election (3/5/2024), Town Election (4/1/2024), State Primary Election (9/3/2024) and State General/Presidential Election (11/5/2024)
  • We encourage all who are not comfortable or able to go to the polls to request an absentee/vote by mail ballot. Please email vote@lakevillema.org and we will mail you the required paperwork.  All absentee/vote by mail ballots, must be received prior to the close of polls on election day to be counted.
Please apply early to allow ample mailing time- you will need MORE THAN ONE WEEK to:
  • Receive your application- Please email us a scanned signed copy or picture
  • Process your application (expect slower turnaround time due to reduced staffing)
  • Receive your ballot via mail- postal services may take at least one week for delivery
  • Return your ballot- Ballots must be returned to the Town Offices (not polling location) by 8pm on election day to be counted
Voter Registration​​​​​- Deadline for Town Election will be 10 days prior to the election date.
Town Clerk's Office will be CLOSED after Federal, State and Local Elections
  • Please be advised,  the Town Clerk's office will close the day after every election for post election audits and resolutions. Should you need assistance, please call ahead before the election so we can help you accordingly.

  • If your board must meet during this time, and you will be participating having not taken your oath of office, please contact the Town Clerk prior to the meeting. 
Public Record Requests
  • Please submit any public records request through online (Public Records Request) or by email at ldrane@lakevillema.org.
  • We will do our best to fulfill these requests. There may be some information that may be delayed due to research that may involve records that are not easily accessible now.

On behalf of the Town Clerk's Office, I want to take opportunity to welcome you to the community.  The Town of Lakeville prides itself on providing high quality services to its residents.  I sincerely believe that you have selected an outstanding place to live, work, learn, and raise a family.

As you settle into your new home, I encourage you to familiarize yourself with the Town.  There is a "Welcome Packet" at the Town Clerk's Office with helpful information to help you get started.  This packet offers a glimpse of activities and services the Town provides.  Our website is also designed to answer many frequently asked questions and provide important information to Lakeville residents and others.

Mission Statement:

The Lakeville Town Clerk's Office is committed to providing competent, courteous, and efficient service to all residents and non-residents alike, also strives to work efficiently and cooperatively with all deparments, boards and committees as well as keeping the integrity of the office.

Responsibilites

  • The Lakeville Town Clerk serves the residents of Lakeville as the official custodian and record keeper of Town Meeting records and vital records dating from the present back to 1853. This office also performs genealogical research.
  • Is the chief election official, recording official, registrar of vital records (births, deaths and marriages), as well as, the public records official.
  • Issues state licenses and permits, including marriage licenses, business licenses (DBA's) and renewals, dog licenses, fuel storage licenses, raffle/bazaar permits, and requests for public documents.
  • Is responsible for all elections, census and voter registration and absentee ballots, preparation of ballots, voting equipment and voter lists, certification of nomination papers and initiative petitions and reports official election results to the Secretary of State of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, as well as overseeing the polling place and the conduct of all elections and election related activity.
  • Records and certifies all official actions of the Town including town meeting legislation and appropriations, Planning and Zoning Board decisions and is the keeper of the Town Seal. The Town Clerk also submits bylaws and zoning ordinances to the Attorney General for approval.
  • Administers the oaths of office and maintains appointments and resignations of all Town Officials and bears the responsibility to ensure compliance with the State Open Meeting Law and Conflict of Interest Law by posting all public meetings of government entities.
  • Responds to inquiries from the public, as well as, from other departments, boards and committees.

Chief Election Official

The Town Clerk is the Chief Election Official and is authorized by state law to administer elections and election-related functions.  In addition to the Town Clerk, the Town of Lakeville has three Registrars of Voters who are appointed by Board of Selectmen, each serving a three year term.  The Registrars of Voters must always represent each of the two leading political parties.  The daily administrations of elections processes is managed by the Town Clerk.

The Office of the Town Clerk is essentially the custodian of the past and a link to the future.
