HAVE YOU RETURNED YOUR 2026 ANNUAL TOWN CENSUS?

Town Census

PRESS RELEASE :  Town Clerk's Office

Have You Returned Your 2026 Annual Town Census Form?

Under MGL c51, s37, every voter who does not respond to the annual town census must be designated as an "inactive voter" and will be placed on the inactive voter list by June 1st.

As part of this required process, our office will mail a Confirmation Notice Postcard to each voter whose census form was not returned.  If you receive a confirmation postcard, please complete and return it as soon as possible. The postcard is postage-prepaid, so there is not cost to you!

What Does "Inactive Voter" Mean?

Being classified as an inactive voter does not remove you from the voter rolls and does not cancel your voter registration. You remain a registered voter and are still eligible to vote.

HOWEVER, if the confirmation card is NOT returned, you will be required to show identification when you check in at your polling location the next time you vote this year. You will be required to fill out an Affirmation of Current and Continuous Residence.  This allows you to cast your ballot.  You'll be added to the active voter list.

If you do not vote in two consecutive federal elections while you're inactive, you will no longer be registered to vote. You will need to register to vote again.
