South Coast Rail Information
The South Coast Rail project is an MBTA and MassDOT initiative to extend commuter rail service to communities in southeastern Massachusetts. Beginning on March 24, 2025, service was extended beyond the Middleborough/Lakeville stop to six new stations in Taunton, Fall River, and New Bedford. For more information about the South Coast Rail project, please visit the MBTA and MassDOT websites.
Middleborough/Lakeville Station
As part of this project, the Middleborough/Lakeville commuter rail stop was moved from Lakeville to a newly constructed station in Middleborough. The existing Lakeville station continues to operate as a stop for the seasonal CapeFLYER.
Crossings
In Lakeville, South Coast Rail utilizes three crossings on Leonard Street, North Precinct Street, and Malbone Street.
In response to resident feedback regarding noise levels, the Town has contacted the MBTA regarding Quiet Zones. The MBTA provided the Town with a report on Quiet Zone implementation in November 2025.
